I have a confession. I have been slacking with my health and wellness goals. It all started with me deciding to take a week off. Amazingly, the week turned into several and just like that, I am slowly reverting back to my old ways. Recognizing this fact, I know that I have to find my motivation and get serious about my health.
Recently, my manager forwarded a video regarding SMART objectives for our team to review. As a graduate student, this video served as an awesome reminder of how beneficial setting clear objectives can be. As I watched the video, I honed in on the announcer’s recommendation to break goals down into actionable steps. It is not enough to simply say “I will lose weight.” You have to clearly define how your will get there.
A part of finding my motivation involves setting Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Bound (SMART) objectives. For example, my objective is to lose weight. My measure of success would be to lose 10 pounds by October 9th. To accomplish this, I must break my goals down into actionable items. My workouts must be broken down into realistic sessions such as four days for week for at least one hour each.
If you are like me and need a little push to achieve your weight loss or other goals, review this quick video. In less than 10 minutes, it will provide useful tips for setting goals and objectives.
